Микропористые тела, избирательно поглощающие из окружающей среды вещества, размеры молекул которых меньше размеров микропор. К ним относятся природные и синтетические цеолиты. Молекулярные сита позволяют производить адсорбционное разделение смесей веществ в газообразной и жидкой фазах.

Материалы с регулярной системой пор, как правило, размером 0,2 — 2 нм, позволяющей разделять компоненты смеси в зависимости от размера и формы их молекул.
К молекулярным ситам относят пористые материалы различного состава и структуры, имеющие поры с размерами, сопоставимыми с размерами молекул. Примерами типичных молекулярных сит являются некоторые металлосиликаты (в том числе цеолиты), алюмофосфаты, углеродные материалы, металлоорганические каркасные структуры и др. Молекулярные сита применяются, в основном, в качестве селективных сорбентов и катализаторов.
